Summer is upon us. For some, this is the best time of the year: school’s out, the snow has long been melted, the temperatures are high and it’s time to have fun fun fun until Daddy takes the T-Bird away. For others, the summer heat is a reason to squirrel away in air-conditioned bliss, comfortably watching those kids in that T-Bird muss their hair and sweat through their shirts. Whether you’re a sun baby or not, Uniiverse is a place to find the best ways to take advantage of the spirit of summer in your own personal way, with like-minded people.
It seems that no matter where you go, “summer” is synonymous with “beach.” So catch a wave and hang out near the ocean, lake, or whatever body of water is close by! We’re sure someone is looking for some friends to frolic with in the wet sand. Now, the San Francisco beaches may be cold, but that doesn’t mean you can’t light up a fire pit, grab some marshmallows and play volleyball until the sun goes down. Maybe you want to spend time on the water, but not IN the water? Alex wants to arrange a crabbing trip. Never been before? He’ll teach you. You’ll return to shore with stories of ship and sea to compliment your mild tan and (hopefully) a fresh batch of deadliest catch.
If the best body of water near you looks like this, we are sorry.
Cooling off in the water is a great way to enjoy the sun, but maybe you’d rather fully embrace the heat in all its sweaty glory? Ruby wants to host some hot yoga. After stretching out your toxins in one-hundred-degree, you’ll feel surprisingly refreshed stepping back out into the hot summer sun.
But you know what else is refreshing? Two words: Air. Conditioning. Headed to the arctic for the summer? Ok fine, that’s not likely. But the point is - if you’re out of town then please, seriously PLEASE let someone rent your AC unit before they waste money on a brand new one, or settle for melting away! Isn’t it great to have resourceful neighbors? That’s what the sharing economy is all about.
We hope Uniiverse helps you have the best summer yet. Get out there and make the most of it.
It’s no secret that sharing means a lot (okay everything) to the Uniiverse team and we had an inkling that it was important to others too, but we wanted to know for sure! So we went out into the depths of the Internet and asked, “what does sharing mean to you?” The responses range from heartfelt to serious to silly, but one thing’s for sure, we are not alone in our passion for the sharing economy. Check out the video above to see what people are saying and maybe think about what sharing means to you. What do you have to share?
New Feature: Some things are best kept secret
How many of your Facebook friends do you truly know in real-life? How many of them do you see on a regular basis?
Uniiverse can spark real-life interactions between you and someone new, but we also want to help you stay closer to your friends and family. Your personal network is extremely important, and we’re happy to announce a new Uniiverse feature that allows you to share brilliantly with the people who matter most. Introducing (drumroll please…) listing invisibility cloaks! (just kidding…sort of) You can now create private and semi-private listings on Uniiverse.
Here’s how it works. When you create a listing, you can now select exactly who can see and book it. You can choose for it to be:
available to the general public
available to just your Facebook friends
available to select people (unlisted and password protected listings)
Uniiverse is even more powerful now that you can share with specific people. Sometimes less is more.
We’re excited to see (and not see) what ideas you come-up with using this powerful tool:
Invite friends to a party or get-together. Split the cost of drinks, food or entertainment. They can pay you directly through the site!
Invite friends to a fun weekend away. Going on a ski trip? Split the cost of accommodation and transportation. Ride-share!
Create a private service that only your friends or loved ones can book. Remember giving mom coupons when you were a kid? Go high tech this year and offer her access to a yearlong Mother’s Day helper!
Share an item or space with only your friends (you might not share certain things with the whole world, but you’d share it with friends, maybe for a cheaper price, or even for free!)
Now, to drop some science: the average Facebook user has 245 friends – but that’s more than what’s known as the “Dunbar Number”. Research from the University of Oxford suggests that there’s a natural limit to the number of relationships humans can process: about 150 people. With Uniiverse, you can now build mini sharing economies with the people who matter to you. Or, share with the world and bring new people into your circles!
We’re very excited to make this option available. You can share what you want, with whom you want, when you want! Keep the Uniiverse close, and your network even closer.
Uniiverse is the world's marketplace for offline sharing. Offer your interests, skills, stuff, space, & time. Share with other people in real-life.
