Uniiverse will be hosting a clothing swap event in Montreal on May 24, 2012. Here are 8 reasons why you should be there!

All clothing that is not swapped at the event will be donated to Dans La Rue, “a Montreal community-based organization that works with street kids and at-risk youth aged 12 to 25.” Among other things, Dans La Rue provides “street kids with food, shelter and support through outreach programs.” Therefore, you can be happy knowing that the un-swapped clothes will be donated to a worthy cause.

3.You Will Minimize Your Impact On The Environment

Christopher Flavin, president of Worldwatch Institute sums this point up nicely: “Unprecedented consumer appetite is undermining the natural systems we all depend on, and making it even harder for the world’s poor to meet their basic needs.” What should you take away from this? When you choose used goods rather than new one, you limit your impact on the environment by recycling existing resources instead of increasing the demand for new ones to be made.

Dj Ledisko & Rowan Spencer (a.k.a. Sam Cross) of DIRTYGOLD will be DJing the event. Hailing from Berkeley California, Rowan has undoubtedly left his mark on Montreal’s music scene. With residencies at Tokyo, Blue Dog, Le Belmont, and starting this summer, Monday nights at Korova, his fanciful mix of bass, hip-hop, house, r&b , and drum & bass is a staple around the Montreal music scene.  Also at the swap will be Montreal’s own DJ Ledisko, who has played at many of Montreal’s most popular clubs, including Café Campus, Velvet, Blue Dog, and Le Belmont. Having shared the decks with big names such as Kill the Noise, Classixx,  LOL Boys and Gtronic -  Ledisko’s unique blend of beats will ensure that your  ears and dancing feet are in good hands.

Plus, the event is at Notman House,  a unique venue known as “Montreal’s technology hub and home of the web.” Its objectives are community building, networking, collaboration and shared learning, making it a perfect fit for Uniiverse. Having hosted events for all kinds of companies from small start-ups to giants like Google, and even events for Pop Montreal, this historic residence is definitely worth visiting..
