The Uniiverse is full of Extraordinary People like… Kirstie Smallman
Kirstie has a positive energy that draws you in and fills the room, which she brings into everything she does. As a blue belt Nia Movement instructor, she teaches in the Cambridge, Paris and K-W area. Check out her interview after the jump!
Q: What led you to post on Uniiverse?
KS: I posted on Uniiverse because I had seen a few Facebook links for it, and I like to find new ways to connect with my community, so I tried it. I also liked it because the market I want to connect with Nia is younger, and online forums and networks are a great place to do that.
Q: So what is Nia anyway?
KS: Nia is a holistic fusion fitness practice that combines martial arts, dance and body-integrative therapies, like yoga. A class lasts for about an hour, and includes a thorough warm-up, extended cardiovascular sections varying in intensity (which is optimal for fat burning and muscle building), strength-training using gravity and one’s own body weight, and finally a cool-down and stretching portion.
Q: What can you expect in a class?
KS: Every class I give is different. And I LOVE that element. Often I will have a new person each time I teach who is new to the concept of holistic fitness, so I remain as open as possible to their past fitness experiences, and this openness usually allows them to feel open too, and engage and ultimately enjoy their Nia experience.
Q: What are some of your other hobbies, jobs?
KS: I love anything to do with making life easier, greener, healthier and more harmonious. I currently teach in a Montessori school in the Junior High level. The kids keep me on my toes and in-touch with what really matters… and it’s not video games and electronic devices! I also am an avid green juicer, and have amassed a ton of knowledge on raw and vegan eating as well. This has all been a personal journey listening to what my body needed.
Q: Do you plan to create any more listings on Uniiverse? What are your other listings on Uniiverse?
KS: I create listings whenever a new event I want to share pops up. So yes, definitely. I have two more play shops in a trio-series based on the martial arts, dance arts, and healing arts of Nia listed here!
